Those people who write the news shape the news, both in print and in fact.

It seems that the purpose of a newspaper today is not to tell people what is actually going on in the world, but merely to confirm and perpetuate people’s prejudices and biases. But people wouldn’t buy them otherwise. There is nothing quite so reassuring as being told by a mass selling newspaper that you are right about the world.

“Here is the news!”

No, here is your opinion about it.

No matter how ‘neutral’ or ‘impartial’ you try to be, it is impossible not to take a position on something. Because being ‘neutral and impartial’ is taking a position.

So, Mr Newsman, what position are you going to take? What are you going to stand for?

I really don’t care about your views about the world. All I care is that you inspire and empower us. That is all.
