I am a great believer that it is not effort that leads to success. It is effortlessness. It is when you get out of your own way and allow your inner star to shine.

That is not to say that if you want to succeed at something you can just sit on your backside, keeping your fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Oh no … To succeed at anything you have to spend time doing it.

However, if you really enjoy doing something, no matter how hard it is it won’t seem like an effort. Hence, it will be effortless.

For example, Pele and Maradona and Cruyff and Ronaldinho probably spent many thousands of hours playing football when they were growing up. While they put in the work necessary to become a great footballer, I doubt it ever seemed like much of an effort for them.

Ditto Hendrix with the guitar.

It is not that there isn’t work involved, it is simply that no matter what the work is or how much of it you have to do – it is worth it.

There is only one thing you should expend any effort on for its own sake. Expend the necessary effort to rid yourself of the fears, insecurities and neurosis that make everything such a bloody effort.
